About the trail

The trail is a part of the old Indo-Tibetian trade route, and offers spectacular close-up views of the Himalaya. Here you are in the heart of the Central Himalayan wilderness surrounded by the biggest Indian peaks – Nanda Devi (7848 m), Nanda Kot (6861m), Trishul (7120 m).

Starting from the heights of Munsiyari, we descend to the shepherd villages of Namik and Gogina, where life still follows the rhythms of old. We trek across streams and down mountain sides set ablaze with Rhododendron blooms. We camp out in meadows hanging above remote hill villages, enjoy fresh meals in flower scented Oak and Deodar forests, and sleep next to the blue river.

The Field Team on the cultural Trek: Partnering with Deep Dive India is a tribe of highly trained and experienced mountain men and women, who since 1993 have been involved in running, one of India’s oldest and the most successful community owned Eco-tourism enterprise in the Kumaon Himalayas.

Who can Participate / How challenging is the trail:

Any person of average fitness can join. Age no Bar. Participants are not required to carry their rucksacks (which will be transported on ponies or by porters). We grade this trail as moderate for a person of average fitness. It involves 7 kms of walking on an average day. The overall gradient of the trail is downhill, however any given day will involve climbing as well. A robust walking regime is recommended for first timers as they prepare for the trek. You may set your own pace, the focus is not on physical exertion, but on appreciating the landscape and local lifestyle to the fullest, with a bit of lazy luxury throw in.
